Where to List Your Business Online

June 5, 2020

Where to List Your Business Online

You probably already know that having an online presence is essential, but where do you begin? If you're a small business owner, you should think about listing your company in a free online directory. Still, there are a few things to consider when you create a listing for the first time, such as links and NAP consistency.

NAP stands for name, address, and phone number, and NAP consistency ensures that customers aren't confused about how they can get in touch with you. You'll want to make sure you have this crucial information spelled and formatted identically on all sites.

All of your listings should also contain links back to your website. The linked pages need to be relevant to the listing and should regularly be checked to make sure they're still active. Now that you know the basics about having an effective listing, you'll need to find directories that support your efforts. Here are 15 websites to consider for your online business listing.

1: Google My Business

Google reigns supreme when it comes to web research. Google makes it easy to register your business listing with Google My Business, also giving you access to Google Maps. If you want more local traffic, a listing on Google Maps is invaluable. Google My Business also provides you with essential data that you can use to help you with your online marketing approach.

2: Bing

Although Bing is not as well-known as Google, it is still a powerhouse for online searches. Even if you don't already have a profile with Bing, it may still show your business based on the demand. While this feature might seem helpful, it's more beneficial if you have control over your information (think about NAP consistency). It is free to register with Bing, so taking control of your business listing here is always a good idea.

3: Better Business Bureau

The Better Business Bureau, also called BBB, is a non-profit organization that's been around for more than 100 years. All companies registered here must adhere to the BBB's standards. Because of its consumer-focused mission and long history, many people place their trust in the Better Business Bureau. Having an affiliation with the BBB can let customers know that you have high standards and that they can put their trust in you.

4: TripAdvisor

Businesses looking to attract tourists should consider a listing with TripAdvisor. More than 60 million travelers utilize this site each month for information on attractions, hotels, and restaurants. If you want to list your company here, it must meet specific criteria:

  • It must offer something of interest to tourists,
  • It has to be family-friendly,
  • It has to adhere to TripAdvisor's animal welfare policy,
  • And your business must currently be open or able to take reservations.

5: EZLocal

If you want to increase your searchability, EZLocal is an excellent option. When you create a listing on this website, it'll show up on both Google and Bing. You can also add short descriptions in your listing to show consumers all of the benefits they'll get from doing business with your company.

6: Yelp

Yelp is a website where people can rate and review almost any business. It is also ideal for businesses because you can post your NAP information, operating hours, photos, and a brief description of your company.

7: Facebook

Facebook is one of the major social media platforms. Having a Facebook business page allows you to have access to more than 2 billion active users, direct interaction with your customers, and brand development opportunities.

One of the best things about Facebook is its share function, which allows you to reach more people. These shares are also fantastic for search rankings.

8: LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the way to go if you want to make professional connections on social media. This platform is perfect for networking, so having a profile here is essential if you're a B2B business. You can also post articles here, so it's a great place to publish SEO content.

9: USdirectory.com

While phone books may be a thing of the past, the online alternative is still going strong. USdirectory.com allows consumers to search for local businesses, making it a great place to create your business listing.

10: CitySearch

This is a directory that allows customers to find businesses in their area. CitySearch aims to spotlight local businesses with its local guides and "Best Of" articles. Customers can rate companies and leave reviews on their profiles. This platform is excellent for connecting directly with your customers and boosting your credibility.

11: Dun & Bradstreet

Dun & Bradstreet, also known as D&B, is a business credit bureau that has a database of business credit files. When you register with them, you'll be assigned a DUNS number, which you'll need for grants and other applications. Registering with D&B is an excellent way to establish credibility with lenders and vendors.

12: Angie's List

Angie's List provides users with information on local professionals, and customers can share reviews and recommendations. Their blog is also full of helpful tips about tackling DIY-style projects or hiring professionals.

If you want to bring in some more local traffic, creating a listing on Angie's List is a great option. This provides you with the opportunity to show your customer service skills by responding to reviews.

13: BizJournals.com

The Business Journals offer visitors a variety of resources, including job postings, market news, and professional development info. Their website, BizJournals.com, also has listings for business information. This is a great place to expose your company since the Business Journals have thousands of readers.

14: Manta

Manta aims to help small businesses increase their online presence, which is why it offers an online directory that is free to join. When you create a listing with Manta, your company will show up in multiple places on the web, ultimately boosting your visibility. You will also get essential search data to help you with your SEO strategy.

15: Thumbtack

Thumbtack is a fantastic place to list your business if you offer services. Customers looking for movers, plumbers, dog groomers, and other service-based companies can compare offers on this website. Thumbtack is an excellent choice if you want an easier way to find customers who need your expertise.

Even as a small business, you can have a significant online presence. Take advantage of these free online directories, so you can boost your website traffic and grow your customer base.
