Create Attention-Grabbing Facebook Ads with Canva

Create Attention-Grabbing Facebook Ads with Canva

Last week we went over how to sign up and use Canva to start building beautiful Facebook Ads. In this article, we're going to go more in-depth on the things you need to make your ads stand out from the competition!

1: Use Stunning Graphics

There are three things you need to keep in mind when designing any type of ad: relevance, value proposition, and a call-to-action. Beautiful, creative graphics can help you achieve each of these ad principles. Whether it's an icon, logo, or simply adding text to an image, graphics play an essential role in capturing your audience's attention - which is the first thing you need to do with any ad, no matter where it's being posted.

2: Overlay Text

Facebook only allows up to 20% of your ads to feature text. It's important to make the most out of the space available. When users are scrolling through their News Feed, your ad needs to catch their attention and tell them why they shouldn't just keep scrolling. Adding copy to your image is a powerful tool.

Pictures may speak 1000 words, but adding a small amount of text can truly reveal the message you want to get across to your audience.

3: Icons & Logos

Since you have limited space for text in Facebook ads, why not consider using a logo or icons to get your message across? In the example below, we know which streaming services are included and how much it costs to bundle them. This is a great example of saying a lot with just logos.

Your ads can also feature logos to help products resonate with your brand. When a person first sees an ad on Facebook, their eyes naturally gravitate toward the image first - this is your most valuable real estate. However, it's important to remember that when using icons a logos, you need to make sure they are clean and minimal so that they don't detract from the image and message of your ad.

4: Use Image Filters

If you've ever edited pictures or used Instagram, you probably already know the value of image filters. These filters can make a dull image look stunning or even change the mood or emotion of an image. Filters can also help you capture your audience's attention.

5: Use Multiple Images

Single images are effective, but multiple images tend to do even better, especially for e-commerce brands. Here are some examples:

This ad from Stitch Fix uses multiple images to tell customers that they have different styles available.

This ad from Little Spoon uses multiple images to tell customers that they have a variety of baby food flavors.

This ad from Cuddle+Kind uses multiple images to tell customers that they offer a plethora of handknit dolls.

Using multiple images can help increase your sales by showing your potential customers that you have a variety of products that can suit their needs.

6: Use People

While you don't have to feature people in your ad for it to be eye-catching and successful, photos of people, especially ones we recognize, tend to do very well. However, we know not everyone has access to celebrities, and that's ok! Social proof works when we view other people similar to ourselves. So, if you decide to use people in your ads, use people that represent your customer.

You can also choose to make two versions of the same ad - for example, one with a male and one with a female. Then you can segment your ad by demographics, so your male customers see the ad with the male model, and females see the one with the female model. Facebook advertising is growing quickly and using targeted ads is a powerful tool!

7: Use a Call-to-Action

You can have a beautiful, eye-catching ad, but if users aren't sure what do or what's in it for them, then your ad will ultimately fail. That's why it's crucial to add a call-to-action button, incentive, or value proposition to your visual content. Adding a call-to-action to your ad does the following:

  1. Lets the user know what is in it for them.
  2. Lets the user know what they need to do.

And if you're selling an expensive product, for example, you might prefer to promote how the customer will save rather than the price of the product.

Takeaway

If your business has an active Facebook page, we recommend playing around with some Facebook advertising. There are plenty of brands out there that are profiting from this platform right now, so don't miss out!

We hope that some of the examples above can help you create some attention-grabbing Facebook ads. You don't need to spend tons of money for your ads to be beautiful and creative. You can use Canva to create simple yet lovely graphics!
